Programme Notes:

Ave Generosa is a medieval chant, originally written by the abbess, composer, and saint Hildegard von Bingen (1098 – 1179). The following piece presents Hildegard’s chant played in its entirety by the harp, while serving as pitch material and source of resonance for all the other instruments in the ensemble.

Ultimately, Reflections on Ave Generosa reflects on the presence of women as composers and performers in 21st century music, showing that sustaining instruments can become percussive, low instruments can play the highest notes, and the harp can become a melodic instrument.
